North Bay, Fairbank Lake training camps concluded, pundits speculate: time to taper?

A long weekend of training starting with a 1.5 day training camp in North Bay, Ontario, followed followed by a 1.5 day training camp at Fairbank lake provincial park.  TSN analyst note that the training spreadsheet has not been dutifully updated, leading to speculation that Rob is following the classic VCC tactic of sandbagging.  Allegations of sandbagging aside, paparazzi stationed at the provincial park gathered some eye-witness evidence that training potentially took place; and as no drownings were reported over the long-weekend, it is unlikey that Rob took advantage of the 275m long lane rope spanning the swim area at Fairbank lakes pristine beach, for training sessions spanning into the 1s of kilometers.

A quick hammock was all the setup Rob needed for his hasty solo training retreat.  A lengthy gravel road in the vicinity, and the famed Wa-Shai-Ga-Mog hiking trail are rumoured to have seen some world-class* training over the weekend.

Fairbank lake is a cold, clear, spring-fed lake, with a large swim lane demarked, ideal for taking photos from the shore of a potential training spot.

With 11 days till race day the sporting worlds sits on it's toes: is now the time to taper?  At 11 days it would be one of Rob's shorter in his career, with a previous PB of a 9.5 year taper.

  1. Subaru renews title sponsorship of Rob Eso
For over 25 years Subaru has been invloved with Rob Eso’s Epic Adventures

Subaru has announced an extension of it’s long-standing sponsorship of Rob Eso. The company first got involved with Rob Eso in the early 1990s with the President’s Choice Rob Eso Scholarship, which is now the Rob Eso Triathlon Series. It became a sponsor of Rob Eso in Penticton in 1996 and became the title sponsor of the event the following year. The company has been the title sponsor of Rob Eso ever since, and has also served as the title sponsor of Andrew Gardiner since debuted in 2012.
The new deal with Eso is for Eso “licensed and owned events in Canada for the 2021 and 2022 race season.” Subaru will be the title sponsor of the Gardiner Ironkids races in Mont-Tremblant, Penticton and Victoria.
“We are proud to renew our title sponsorship of Rob Eso events in Canada,” says SCI chairman, president and CEO Yasushi Enami. “By further extending the partnership, Subaru Canada continues to support and promote good health while remaining true to our core value of adventure.”
A separate deal sees Subaru continue as the title sponsor of Andrew Gardiner 70.3 Muskoka, Gardiner Girl Grimsby and the Gardiner Ontario Triathlon Series.
According to today’s release Subaru will also continue its sponsorship of the “Rob’s Road to Kona award program”
This is also the fifth year that Subaru Canada will sponsor the Rob’s Road to Kona award program. The company brings “a deserving athlete to the Island of Hawai`i to compete at the Ironman World Championship.” This year the program is being expanded “to allow for nominations from the thousands of amazing volunteers who contribute to the success of our events.” The program is open to registered athletes or volunteers at any Rob Eso Canada-sponsored Ironman event.
